HomeWelcome to the Gateway Centre, a purpose-built Community Centre and Nursery situated in Harlow, Essex in the heart of the Staple Tye community. The range of activities based within the centre are primarily focused on family support alongside affordable and quality child care, plus training and personal development opportunities. The Centre houses the Gateway Nursery, the Gateway After Schools & Holiday Club and is the home of Gateway Freedom Church . As well as providing a range of activities for the local community, the Centre also has rooms and facilities available for hire by business and community groups for meetings, conferences and social events.
The Gateway Centre was built in 2004 to provide facilities for the local community and the surrounding area. The Centre provides a multi-purpose facility and has been likened by many to a 'Tardis' as the outside appearance belies the range and size of the facilities within. The Centre was developed through active involvement and advice from the local community by Gateway Freedom Church.
The Gateway Centre is a project of Gateway Freedom Church, a registered company and registered charity number 1099828. Please contact us for any information or enquiries.
The Gateway Centre is an initiative of Gateway Freedom Church, one of Harlow's churches.
Gateway Freedom Church is a registered charity and is also a limited company. We have a board of directors/trustees and we also have a senior leadership which is responsible for setting the spiritual direction of the church.

Annual Report 07_08 with pics.pdf
Gateway Freedom Church started in 1985 under the leadership of Peter Doherty. In those days the church was known as Gateway Christian Fellowship. Peter had a vision for a church that was a "community serving the community" and for a church building that was a place where the love of God was practically shown 7 days a week.
Thanks to the sacrificial giving of many people, the donation of many generous gifts and grants and the loving provision of Father God, we were able to purchase the site at Perry Road in 2002.
In 2005, we were delighted to open the Gateway Centre as a church and community resource.

Gateway Freedom Church has a simple vision statement:
"following Jesus"
Our vision is that the people who consider themselves part of the church family at Gateway will become more like Jesus in the way they think, act and treat others.
Can you imagine hundreds of people doing the things that Jesus does? That will transform the world we live in.
Wouldn't you like to be part of that?

The Gateway Luncheon Club for senior citizens was launched in April 2006 and has been a great success. The club meets weekly on Wednesdays (during term time) and aims to provide a nutritious and tasty meal, followed by tea or coffee, freshly prepared by the resident chef, and served in inviting and comfortable surroundings. The meal is followed by an activity - often bingo or a quiz and the winner receives a free meal on their next visit.
Run by a group of dedicated volunteers, their aim is to provide a first class service from the moment the person enters the centre. The saying goes the proof of the pudding is in the eating and satisfied customers return week after week, not just for the delicious food but also for the lively conversation, good fun and warm company.
Outings are planned for some of the Wednesdays that fall during the school holidays.
Our hope and prayer for the future of the Luncheon Club is, that it will continue to be a success, increase to more days of the week, and develop, such that other unmet needs of senior citizens in the community can be catered for. Watch this space.

Mums, Dads, Grandparents and Carers are all welcome to come along every Tuesday morning during school term-times. We meet from 9.45 to 11.15am. We have toys for all ages and enjoy activities including play-doh, painting & drawing, parachute games, stories and songs.
Cost is £1 per family which includes tea, coffee, juice and biscuits.
Please come along and join in the fun. Any queries call the Gateway Centre on 01279 630340.
At the Gateway Centre there is a weekly drop in clinic every Thursday morning from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm with a Citizens' Advice Bureau advisor.
There is no need to book an appointment - just come along and the advisor will see you when he is free.

Freedom ChurchWelcome!
Our meeting format is relaxed, informal and centred on the Word of God. All meetings are wheelchair accessible and interpreted for the deaf.
Gateway Freedom Church has a number of small groups, or cells, which meet together in various homes around Harlow on a regular basis. The purpose of cells is to help people discover more about how they can in practice follow Jesus' example and teaching.
The activities which take place in cells will vary from time to time, but they are always based on 5 key cell values, which are: Jesus at the centre; everyone growing; everyone contributing; deeper relationships; and everyone sharing Jesus.
We are supporters of an organisation called Cell UK, which is a nationwide and interdenominational group which promotes cell-based principles.
Our core values are the underlying principles that guide us in making decisions, determining priorities, setting goals, allocating resources and carrying out programmes.
We value:
If you would like to come and find out more, we’d love to welcome you to any of our Sunday morning meetings, which start at 10.30am and are interpreted for the deaf. On the first Sunday of each month we have a special time for communion / breaking bread and prayer for anyone who needs healing, along with a time for worship. Our meeting format is relaxed and informal. The purpose of these meetings is to worship God and to create an environment where, we hope, people can have an encounter with Him.
If you have children there are activities arranged for them for about an hour during the meeting. We aim to finish shortly after 12 midday and have a cup of tea or coffee and a chat.

On Friday evenings from 8pm to around 9.30pm we meet "In His Presence" for a more intimate time of worship, teaching and prayer.
Cells (small groups) meet regularly during the week in people's homes.

Former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, with Peter Doherty, Director of Primary Health Care, Links International
We believe that as part of the great commission which Jesus has given to his church, it is vital that we "think locally, act globally". As well as wanting to be an influence for good in our local community, we want to bring good news, in all its forms to communities around the world.
Peter Doherty, one of our founding pastors, who was also the Director of Primary Health Care for Links International, has lead numerous teams delivering training in primary health care to countries such as South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Mozambique, Lesotho, India and Sri Lanka.
His wife, Suzanne, our other founding pastor, until recently was a trustee of In Ministry to Children and as a result many of us have either travelled to Colombia to help, or have worked hard at fundraising here at home.
Many of our members have involvements with various countries, some of these are reflected in our links page.
We are also delighted to be hosting Mauricio and Sibele Colussi, a young couple who are missionaries to our culture from Brazil.
We are also involved in supporting the charity www.1dollaraday.org which was founded in 2006 in the UK by a handful of people wanting to do something about the billion or so who live on less than 1 Dollar a Day. Knowing that only together could we acheive something significant, www.1dollaraday.org was born – a movement by the people for the people. Their aims:
You can find more details on our links page.

Our Sunday morning meetings are interpreted for the deaf and a loop system is installed in the main hall.
Gateway Freedom Church provides sign language classes for interested people from across the Harlow area during term-time on Tuesday afternoons and evenings at the Gateway Centre.
There is a ramp for wheelchair access to the building and we also have a disabled toilet.

Courses for complete beginners start in September each year, whereas more experienced signers can join at any time.
The groups are designed to be fun rather than concentrated hard work. Use is made of video as well as many games in sign language to help improve understanding and signed communication skills.
